How a Storytelling show changed my life (and how you can come see it)
The legendary live show STORY CLUB is back!
When I first came back to Australia to do Batch, I connected with Dom Knight from The Chaser.
He was kind enough to introduce me to a woman who would alter the course of my career in profound ways; Zoë Norton-Lodge.
Zoë is a creative force that is so powerful one can barely make direct eye contact with her power.
A writer, performer, Mum, wife and absolute legend - she invited me to tell a story at the now-legendary storytelling show “Story Club” that she created with Ben Jenkins.
Each show has a different theme, and there are only three rules;
The story has to be true.
The story has to be read (not a memorised standup bit).
The story should be funny.
If you’ve ever had the chance to go, you’ll know that there’s something very special about the experience of live storytelling, particularly when you are permitted to laugh at parts of life that we don’t always get to laugh about.
I have had the immense pleasure of performing at Story Club several times, and one of my stories “The Day My Brain Broke” ended up being the catalyst to what eventually became my first book.
When it came time to do the live show based on the book, it was an easy decision to ask Zoë to co-write and direct that show.
Fast forward to Lockdowns, Growing Families, and work pressures rising - Story Club went on a little holiday.
Until now.
I am thrilled to tell you that Story Club co-founder Ben Jenkins has given me his blessing to try to step into his enormous shoes so that I may help Zoë carry the torch of Story Club forward into the future.
Zoë and I are assembling a team of special guest storytellers to join us for a night that will give long-time fans of the show everything they expect while injecting a little bit of something new to spice things up.
Tickets are on sale now.
I hope you can join us as we dive into the theme of the night, “Going back for Seconds”.
Can’t wait to see you there.

Very first performance I ever did was at Giant Dwarf's story club writing workshop followed by story night at GD. I remember listening to your story on their podcast almost a decade ago. Amazing that it's back and will be even more amazing with you at the helm 💗
